Lizardmen

Another force painted specifically for Song of Blades and Heroes.  Lizardmen have a long history in sci-fi too so they will probably get used as native aliens or mutants at some stage too.

The paint jobs are straightforward basecoat plus one or two drybrush/highlights.  Certain areas got an ink wash and then the figures were dipped.  At this stage when I dip figures it tends not to be to shade the figure but merely to “black line” it.  Its a whole lot faster then doing that by hand.

Shaun of the Dead (and Ed)

I painted Shaun in ’05 I think.  I spent a little time on him to get the look reasonably right, although I still took a lot of short cuts (like not bothering to highlight the black trousers and belt) for example.  I like him, I think that he looks pretty cool.

Ed was bought and painted some time later.  I spent a whole lot less time on Ed.  A scruffy and rushed paint job combined with a messy dipping combine to make the figure less than stellar overall.  On the game table he looks fine however, particularly when associated with Shaun.

Iron Men Terminator Characters #1

A vintage GW Terminator Captain and a vintage (but far inferior) plastic Terminator Librarian.  Both are primarily intended for use in Space Hulk.

Genestealer Purestrains and Patriarch

More of my Space Hulk project, this time the Genestealers.

Purestrain Genestealer

Purestrain Genestealer

As there are so many genestealers (I had 26 or so to paint plus the same number again of hybrids) I wanted to paint them as quickly as possible.  Individual brilliance was not required.

As I intend to convert Space Hulk to an “Aliens” setting at some point (the miniatures are bought and assembled so it is just a matter of time) I took a look at the Horrorclix Aliens that I have for that.  As I intend to use the ‘stealers to make up the numbers when using the Xenomorphs I decided to use the colour scheme that those figures have on the ‘stealers too.  I have used this scheme for all of my Bug related figures.

So the figures are sprayed black, drybrushed a dark blue or blue/purple all over (I used a few different shades for variety), the claws and heads are painted black again, the claws are given a quick, harsh silver highlight and the head is given a gloss varnish.  I painted the tongue (and sometimes the eyes) with a bright green just to give the figures a little lift.  They look good on the table en masse which is what I was looking for.

Genestealer Brood

Genestealer Brood

The Patriarch (retconned to be a “Broodlord” these days) is a figure that I originally painted way back in 1990 or so.  I wanted to repaint it to match the new guys but I dont really like the figure.  Still, I wasnt going to buy a new Broodlord.  The  figure and the new paint job are both tolerable and functional.

Elves

I have recently started playing several Ganesha games.  Although I have plenty of painted figures suitable for playing Song of Blades and Heroes I enjoy getting small factions ready for gaming weekends.  These elves were painted quickly for that reason.

Iron Men Terminator Squad Downey

After owning Space Hulk in a partially painted but unfinished state since 1990 I finally got around to starting the whole thing over last summer.

For the marines I went with a colour scheme inspired by Marvels Iron Man.  It was reasonably quick to paint and gives a slightly industrial look I think.  I went with various other Iron Man related influences here and there throughout the project, mostly when naming the marines.

Below is the first squad of Terminators that I painted, led by Sergeant Downey.  There will be more Space Hulk photos to follow over the next week or two.

Resident Evil Alice and Rocko the Survivor

Alice from Resident Evil Extinction

Alice

From the 2007 "Resident Evil: Extinction" Collection

Although I like the first Resident Evil movie I am not a big fan of the RE movies as a whole: they diverge so much from the games as to essentially be their own story really (plus they are mostly utter crap).  I love the video games though.  Regardless, this figure is a nice and very recognisable survivor figure for zombie games.

Rocko (or "Towellie" as he has been called).

Rocko

It looks like the zompocalypse has taken its toll on Rockos mental state.  I originally intended to paint Rockos “cape” like a beach towel or other recognisably mundane pattern.  As I got through the rest of the figure I figured that giving him a yellow cape tied in a little with that fireman motif and also gave a hint of Supermans colour pallete.  So I went with that instead.

Four of us played SoBH on the last weekend in June.  Although we also played a few boardgames the main emphasis was to give SoBH a solid runthrough. Below are a few quick snaps of some of the games in progress.

Descent Ferrox

Ferrox

Ferrox

No, I dont know what a ferrox is either.  In Descent they seem to be blood drinkers or ghouls os similar.  They have vesitgial wings under theier arms.  As a result I used a vampire figure as their leader.  I plan to use these in Fear and Faith and other horror games too.

As with all of the Descent figures, the main priority was to get the whole lot finished to an acceptable standard, not to paint display pieces.
