Zombie of the Week #14: Bajingo

Unpleasant

Bajingo

The compulsive desire to eat can take on a physical aspect in rare cases of infection.  In the subject shown above it has manifested as a gross distortion and mutation of the subjects mouth, resulting in increased energy levels.

Bajingo Rear Shot

This is a second Helldorado “Damned one of Gluttony” like Hoo Hoo from a few weeks ago.  Another genuinely unpleasant looking miniature.  Obviously the figure would be suitable as a L4D Smoker or a Resident Evil Licker variant or similar.

I am aware that naming the figure that is a bit silly, but the name had already “stuck”.  Not that it really needs a name anyway.

Resident Evil: Carlos Oliveira – U.B.C.S.

Carlos Oliveira

According to the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis rulebook:

“Though Carlos hails from South America, his exact origins are unknown except that he carries Indian blood”.

“He is a U.B.C.S. soldier, in charage of heavy firearms, security and mission back-up.  He is also responsible for weapons maintenance”.

“At first sight he may appear inexperienced and immature.  He is actually warm-hearted, with a strong sense of right and wrong”.

The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.) that Carlos is part of when first encountered in RE3, is a different group to the Umbrella Security Service (which I posted about here, here and here).  According to the Resident Evil Wiki “the U.S.S. were specially taught mercenaries with experience in infiltration while U.B.C.S. were just criminals released to fight for Umbrella”.  Who knew?

"I know. You want to ask me out. All the foxy ladies love my accent. It drives them crazy".

Carlos is a a playable character in RE3: Nemesis and he also appeared in two of the movies.  In the game he was unaware of how eeevil the Umbrella Corp was, despite being on their military payroll.  Hence the Umbrella logo on his jacket.

Resident Evil: Leon S. Kennedy – Government Agent

Leon S. Kennedy

Leon S. Kennedy

“Agent for the U.S. Government.  He has been sent to Europe on a solo mission to rescue the Presidents kidnapped daughter, Ashley.  Leon is one of the few people who survived the destruction of Raccoon City six years ago.”

Leons blurb according to the Resident Evil 4 rulebook.  Leon also appeared in Resident Evil 2, but the figure is based on his Resident Evil 4 look.  Like pretty much all of the Resident Evil game franchise, RE2 was great, as good as RE4 I think.

"Used to be a cop myself, only for a day though".

The figure is immediately recognisable as the character from the games.  His floppy fringe is exaggerated a bit which gives him a bit of a Morten Harket look, which is mildly amusing :)

The figures mouth is broad, quite Martin Landau like.  I am not sure if I managed to unintentionally make that happen with paint or if it is part of the sculpt.  Also, Leons left arm looks to be a tiny bit on the short side but as far as I am concerned these are minor issues.  I like the figure, the character and the way that the paint job turned out.

Zombie of the Week #13: Steve

Steve

Some infected retain the ability to use tools.  From what large creature the subject above acquired its implement is as yet unknown.

Futuristic Atire

Steve is a GW Necromunda zombie.  The shoulder and elbow pads give him a Mega City One look I think.  The bone is stupid though: where is it supposed to have come from, let alone where it is supposed to have come from in the Necromundan underhive?  It shouldnt bug me that much, but it does :)

Resident Evil: Chris Redfield – S.T.A.R.S.

Chris Redfield

“Chris is a member of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team.  He is a seasoned veteran who possesses both intelligence and immense strength.  He has completed numerous missions by overcoming critical situations and great danger.”

Thats what the Gamecube version of the Resident Evil rulebook says about Chris, in predictably stilted terms (although the Gamecube version was a hell of a lot less awkward in terms of language that the PS1 version was. “Master of unlocking” indeed.).

I loved that game on the PS1.  It was probably my creepiest video gaming experience (and corresponding Xmas) ever.  It was also the beginning of my ongoing interest in zombie related media and so I have been on the look out for miniatures to represent the RE characters ever since.

S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team Member

When I found that the Recreational Conflict modern horror range (“Lead Bones”) has eight figures that bear a lot of similarities to the characters from the game franchise I kinda had to get them, a bit like when I found out that Studio Miniatures made a not-Alice.  The first figure for show is Chris.

It was, as usual a pretty quick paint job: base coat, wash, one or maybe two highlights, a small bit of detailing.  I didnt have the patience to paint “S. T. A. R. S.” on his back and settled for a vague approximation instead.  On a gaming table it wont be noticed I am certain.  The sculpts face is a litle bit simian and I am not terribly keen on the legs akimbo look but I still get a kick out having Chris from Resident Evil in with my zombie figures.

More Resident Evil protagonists to follow.

Horrorclix Zombie Repaints

Horrorclix Horde

In addition to the Horrorclix zombie cops I also painted up the remaining civilians that I had just after Xmas, the last things that I painted in 2009.

A Pair of Zombie Lawyers (apparently...)

I did very little with the two above.  I drybrushed the suits, repainted the flesh areas and gored up the whole thing.

Zombie Backing Singers

I did a little more with these three.  I gave them all individual dress colours at least.  They are probably the weakest of the Horroclix zombie figures (and weirdly the tallest too).  Perfectly suitable for buling up the horde nonetheless.

Oddball Zombies

The guy on the left above got his outfit drybrushed, the others didnt.  The three of them got their flesh repainted and the ventriloquist got a little gore added but thats it.  I like the vetriloquist.  Presumably he says “Graaains” while his dummy chows down on unsuspecting humans.

L to R: Kingzombie, Hasslefree, Zombiesmith, Horrorclix

Finally a comparison shot.  Although the styles and to an extent the scales of the above manufacturers all vary a lot, I am quite happy to use the lot in the same game.  I dont think that the scale difference is that extreme.

Zombie of the Week #12: Hoo Hoo

Hoo Hoo

Hoo Hoo

For unknown reasons a very small proportion of infected mutate to a much larger extent than normal.  The forms that these mutations take are unpredictable.  In the extreme case shown above it appears that the subjects digestive processes have mutated greatly, in addition to vastly increased bulk.

Saggy Rear

Hoo Hoo is a Heldorado figure.   It is probably one of the more disturbing figures that I own: I find it quite repulsive and not a little Freudian.  I intend to use it as a Tyrant or Tank or possibly a Smoker.  The figure is called Hoo Hoo as a “joke”.

Zombie Cops

Undead Fuzz

I have had a few Horrorclix zombies knocking around for a while.  I took them off their original bases a few years ago and I considered leaving them as is, without repainting them.  Over Xmas I got the urge to personalise them a little, to make them a little more like part of my zombie horde.

Rather than repaint them entirely I treated them as if they had been base coated and worked from there.  I am pleased with how much better they look than the original factory paint job.  I also repositioned the arms on a few of them to give a little variety, but it was a bit half hearted.

Putrefied Police

I am glad to have a large number of zombie cop figures (there were two in the Kingzombie set too).  It reminds me of Resident Evil 2.

Kingzombie Horde

Kingzombie Horde

I got these guys painted up before Xmas.  Expect to see each of them individually in Zombie of the Week over the next few months.

They are pretty large miniatures and quite cartoony.  This was potentially an issue for me but as they are zombies rather than humans I am ok with them looking a bit bloated.  In addition to making them fun to paint, their big googly faces remind me of the bad guys in Evil Dead 2, which cant be a bad thing.

The figures are very gory, both in the paint scheme and in terms of the sculpts themselves.  The female soldier on the extreme left front of the picture above is actually in the midst of being shot by something pretty horrendous, a gigantic shotgun or something.  I was experimenting with a couple of techniques to get the right red for the bloody areas.  It nearly worked but not quite: they are a little too red I think.

EDIT: Since I put this post up I have gone back over the bloody areas of these miniatures and made thema little darker and stickier looking.  I may get around to taking another set of photos of them, but it wont be for a long time.

L to R: Studio, Hasslefree, Kingzombie, old metal GW, plastic GW

As you can see above, the Kingzombie proportions are quite extreme.  While I would rather that they looked a little more in proportion with the rest of my figures, they are within acceptable parameters for the skirmish games that I play.

Zombie of the Week #11: Frank

Frank

Frank

Nobody knows whose head Frank is holding, least of all Frank.

Decapitator

Decapitator

Frank is a fun old GW zombie.  As is nearly always the case with my zombies these days he is pretty bloody too.
