Pulp Alley/Antares weekend.

Its a Santa off!

Its a Space Santa off!

I spent last weekend playing toy soldiers with Just John.  The games ended up having a somewhat festive (a science fantasy, post-apocalyptic, 2000AD, WWI, mash-up sort of festive) theme.  Some photos of the two Pulp Alley and single Beyond the Gates of Antares games that we played follow.

Im under some time pressure this week, so no in depth, ridiculous narrative filled report this time, just images and some captions.  The nature of some of the images and various peculiar characters involved should give enough cues for readers to come up with their own pithy comments if desired anyway.  Feel free to include your choice hilarity in the comments 🙂

All things being equal, a sight that you dont see at the end of many toy soldier games.

John and I also got a quick game of Beyond the Gates of Antares in.  I used my Sin-Eater Chaos Marines and John used the Leprecians again.

A fun weekend of unusally festive toy soldier gaming, largely defined by the ever developing character of Leprecian Captain Jameson, who is by any measure a proper bastard.

Looks like a fun game even if I can only vaguely compehend what was going on.

    • Ha, ha! Post apocalyptic exotic dancers have a tough existence by any measure :/

As for the story, part of the reason that I didnt go into it is that it was a bit convoluted and that it keyed off some other games that we have played recently, but as you expressed an interest, here are the Cliffs Notes:

Cpt. Jameson hired notorious burglar “St Nick” to retrieve a Maguffin thematically linked to previous games. An impostor muddied the job and ended up with the Maguffin, so St Nick joined with Cpt. Jameson to track the imposter and Maguffin down. Judges arrived to investigate reports of brightly clad, overweight men breaking and entering.

The second scenario involved local law enforcement escorting the imposter through the slum in protective custody. The Leprecian force (space halflings led by Cpt. Jameson and accompanied by St Nick) were trying to take the imposter out.

The whole thing was a little bit more absurd than usual, but the inclusion of multiple Space Santas made that inevitable. It will be back to the usual, fractionally less absurd shenanigans next time.

Thanks for the feedback NSA 🙂

  3. Much to love as always. You just can’t beat a good wombling. I think my favourite is the detail on the Zombie Awareness poster.

    • “Wombling” has been changed as part of my lexicon forever after that, many thanks AB 😉

There are various zombie awareness posters all over my post apocalyptic shanty terrain. They look the part and add despite their topic expand the limited sense of realism I think. I have some plans to add to this terrain set and to increase some of the bits that might make Standard Falls more lived in and characterful, but that is a topic for another day. I really should add some Mushrôôm Klôwd posters though.

As ever, thanks for the feedback!

    • Not entirely random in fairness mattblackgod 🙂

The womble is a Hasslefree miniature. I think that it started development as a Kindred (WWI Halfling) model in a ghillie suit, but ended up looking so much like a womble that Kev White simply made it a womble, but I might have imagined that story.

Regardless, it was fun getting an armed space womble into the mix.
